Introduction

First week back, the beginning of second semester. Time to do it all again. Sarah introduced the module giving us an overview of what we would be doing throughout and talked us through the module handbook. I'm looking forward to it, last semester I had only just begun animation. This semester I've got a whole lot of animation under my belt and I feel like I want to broaden my horizons. 3D maybe? Who knows, we shall see as the weeks go by. Maybe 2D rigging is a more likely venture.
Group Project

The Class is being split into two groups. A 3D group and a 2D group. I put myself forward for the 2D group. I've never done anything in the 3D sphere before so it made no sense to go down that route. It is something I want to discover but not something I want to commit to a before I know anything.
Each group was then presented with there pitch which they would be working on for the rest of the semester. Our pitch was to create a show for Cartoon Network.  They were looking for a short 30/40 second animation which covered either be "be safe online" or "don't judge a book by its cover". the animation should be aimed at kids 6-12 years old and should have simple playful characters who are easy to draw, random humour and a wild energy. I have included the original pitch document below.
Once we had our brief it was time to get into our teams and get started. We started off with a basic house keeping task that Sarah set for us. This included us:
-Creating a team name
-Contact Your Mentor
- Set Up a Meeting Time
- Create an Initial Plan / Schedule for review next week
- Create Initial Roles
- Set Up a Group Channel on Discord / Social Media Platform of your choice
- Set Up a new Blog area for this module
Group Name
For our group name we decided that we would be called team Vampy. We came up with this name quite quick and it was a very easy decision. The name is taken from Claire's stuffed vampire Vampy. Claire takes Vampy into university with her and it just made sense to us as a group to use him as a sort of mascot for the group. Having him in the class and it being something which means a lot to Claire gave us an easy decision. And so Team Vampy was born.
Group Mentor
Our group mentor is Sorcha Mcglinchey. We were never actually able to set up a meeting with Sorcha. She is currently away for work in another country so she is probably extremely busy at this time. We have emailed her and will await her response whenever she is free. As its only the first week this is no big deal, she can contact us when she is free and we can move forward from there. I look forward to working with her throughout the semester.
Schedule/Roles
We never set out and created a clear schedule. At this time we were more focusing on what ideas we had for the project and what we wanted to achieve through it. Setting out a schedule in the coming weeks is one of our goals and is something we will definitely do in a week or two. For team roles Bethany used the example Gannt chart from blackboard and uploaded this to Google Drive were everyone was able to access and edit it. I put myself forward for backgrounds as it was something I didn't really do much of last semester. For my animation Jam I kept to very simplistic background. So I thought I'd give more detailed backgrounds a go this term. I'm open to working on any role at the minute. Rigging interests me and is something I may look into helping with later on in the project.
